Hey Honey,

We just got back from an impromptu 4th BBQ at the neighbors. It was a spontaneous invite and nice visit with some neighbors who understand pets, being out of work, family issues, being artsy but not an artist and being so much of a lefty that you feel bad about calling the fascists out. You know, PLU.

Your story moved me, but did not surprise me. I knew you had to get your character from someone and a military father probably did not present that opportunity.

Surely, you don't imagine where you live diminishes you - unless one becomes rich by deception, that is not the case. There are many who have no place to live, some due to circumstances of declining mental abilities. Hopefully, there will be enough of us old codgers around to take care of each other, by just the power of the vote - if nothing else. Altho I thing the volunteer community is the place to hook up. There is a community all around of us and you are about to find yourself in the middle of a lot more community - based on the proximity of your neighbors. You'll gravitate to the best and, with any luck at all, handle the rest of the lot ( or D cabin, as I like to call them).

I know this is scary. But, and I roughly quote;"Fear is the mind killer. It is the little death that leads to annihilation. I shall let the fear pass thru me and become my past and not of my future".

You see a whole new world, try not to prejudge it. Try to gaze forward with your mother's eyes.

You know Martin & I love you and wish for your life to become what want it to be. Now you have the independence to do it. Happy Fourth!!!!

(I hope this makes sense; I just smoked a BIG bowl of pot before I picked up the 'puter.

not really. it's a true warning to married women who become a corporate wife or stay at home mom. our income was 'married, filed jointly' on our taxes. his was shown as 'everything' with mine lumped in.
so, as far as SS is concerned, I haven't worked a day in the last 10 years.
quite unsettling.
you don't get work credits. you need a specific amount to get disability. i don't have them. end of story.
really a tough turn of events. and a lesson for women.

hi mari. it is very painful but at least realizing how little it cost monetarily has helped a bit. and really, when it was all over, there was only one thing I lamented. not bad, considering I had over 100 people here, taking things. it's just stuff babe. and what we save as we downsize, is the best part of our pickings.
getting rid of so many suits and heels was great. younger women, smaller women, who need those things i cannot wear.

I am shocked you don't qualify for disability benefits! It seems so unfair.

I think realizing that "I had the use" of an item for a number of years, but now it's best for someone else to "have the use of it" will truly help me come to terms with leaving so many possessions behind. They are, as you said, only things.

I so know all of what you are saying to be true. Even though I am a mom and my boys are wonderfully thoughtful about doing something special for me on Mother's Day, all I really think about is how much I miss my mom. She was truly amazing. Maybe that's why it's impossible to get beyond the void she left. It's been over four years, and I can still see something and think, "That's funny, I have to call my mom and tell her." What I wouldn't give to talk to her just one more time. . .
